Internal tools are often complex for good reasons: they carry business rules, exceptions and years of operational knowledge. Domiserve’s teams used a dense management platform to process home-service requests across different departments. As the product designer, I investigated how that work actually happened and redesigned the system as a clearer operational workspace rather than a simplified consumer interface.

Study the work, not only the screens

I combined an interface audit with employee interviews to understand tasks, handovers, exceptions and bottlenecks. This separated genuine business complexity from friction created by the legacy interface.

Design around departmental realities

Different teams needed different information at different moments. I mapped their journeys and reorganised content around decisions and next actions instead of mirroring the underlying database structure.

Keep density where density helps

A back office cannot hide every detail behind extra clicks. The redesign used hierarchy, grouping and progressive disclosure to preserve useful data density while reducing visual competition.

Validate realistic scenarios

Interactive prototypes simulated everyday management cases and edge conditions. Stakeholder reviews then refined the information architecture before the project moved to development handoff.

Outcome

The mission delivered a documented UX audit, mapped operational journeys, a revised information architecture and interactive high-fidelity prototypes.

Because this was an internal platform, no public usage metric can responsibly be attached to the work. The outcome presented here is the validated design foundation and its translation of complex organisational knowledge into an executable product model.

It demonstrates my ability to make complex professional systems clearer without stripping away the information and exceptions experts need to do their work.
